Keeping Your Caravan Warm this Winter

Winter can give us some of the coldest, harshest and unforgiving weather so it’s really important that your caravan is kept as snug and as warm as possible when the season arrives. Knowing how to keep your caravan warm in winter can be a huge challenge – but these days most modern caravans can offer a whole host of opportunities to help keep the warmth in even the coldest days of the year.

Caravan parks offer you a great opportunity to stay in a cosy, close-knit community, giving you a warm feeling and a sense of security. However, your van might not feel the same – at the end of the day, the last thing you need is for the inside of the van to feel like an ice cube! You want to remain as comfortable, warm and cosy as possible. When living in a static caravan in winter there are many ways to keep it warm over the coming months.

Why not fit a fireplace?

This might sound as though you would need a complete remodel of the interior – but that’s not the case. Adding an electric fireplace could warm up your entire van in minutes.

Many people imagine that sitting in front of a roaring fire during the cold, bitter nights and it can become a reality even in your static caravan! Wall-mounted (electric) fireplaces are quite a cheap option. They can also make the décor look better too and are very easy to fit, and at the end of the day will keep you warm throughout the winter months ahead.

Why not grab a free-standing heater?

If you are struggling for more warmth why not grab a free-standing heater or fire. They are easy to fit and very straightforward to operate and can generate some good heat to keep the entire static caravan warm and snug.

Free-standing heaters are also quite portable and can easily be moved into different rooms or different areas of the van to ensure that the whole space warms up nicely. This winter stays warm and cosy with a free-standing heater.

Ensure heat is not escaping from your caravan

It can be easy to heat your caravan but keeping the hot air in can become quite difficult. In summer, you can leave the doors and windows of the van open without worrying, however now winter is on its way it’s best to keep them closed tightly.

Ensuring that your caravan stays warm in the winter can be as simple as keeping the windows and doors firmly closed tight. They can ensure that the warm air is trapped inside the van. Also, you may want to consider using draught excluders as well to ensure the cold air doesn’t start whistling in.

You may also want to use some thick curtains for some extra protection from the cold. Keep in mind though you will want to open the curtains in the day to avoid a build-up of condensation in your caravan.

Keeping your caravan warm at night

You’ve gone to the trouble of ensuring your caravan is as warm as possible. You also want to invest in some warm winter bedding to ensure you are all snug at night. Get a thick quilt and some extra thermal blankets for layering at night. You may also want to consider some nice thick socks and also a hot water bottle or microwavable bean bag to ensure you get a good night’s rest.

So, as you can see it’s not difficult to keep your caravan as snug and warm as possible this winter. As winter creeps intake the opportunity to get your caravan prepared for all the cold weather heading your way. Taking advantage of your caravan in winter is exciting and good fun but equally, you must prepare for what the winter throws at us.
